Uisenma Borchu was born in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and came to the GDR as a child. She studied documentary film at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF). For her diploma film DON'T LOOK AT ME THAT WAY she received the Bavarian Film Award for Newcomer Directors, the Fipresci Film Critics Award at the Munich Film Festival and the Grand Prix in the New Talent Competition at the Taipei Film Festival. Her first feature after school BLACK MILK premiered at the BERLINALE in the PANORAMA section. She wrote and directed the play NACHTS ALS DIE SONNE FÜR MICH SCHIEN at the Münchner Kammerspiele.
